The arrest of a 19-year-old sheds light on the drug issue among youth in Mauritius.
On Thursday, July 30, 2026, a 19-year-old man was arrested by the ADSU (Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit) in Dagotière while in possession of synthetic cannabis. The intervention by the officers took place around 10:15 AM along the main road of the locality.
The suspect, who is unemployed and resides in Dagotière, was intercepted during a routine operation. During the search, officers discovered a packet containing thirteen pieces of aluminum foil, each representing a dose of synthetic cannabis. This seizure highlights a growing issue regarding drug consumption among the youth, which poses a major challenge for local authorities.
The sale and consumption of drugs, particularly among young people, are concerning topics in Mauritius. Police interventions aim not only to apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking but also to raise awareness among the population about the dangers associated with the use of illicit substances.
Authorities continue to carry out operations to combat this scourge and protect young people from the harmful effects of drugs. This recent arrest underscores the need to strengthen educational and preventive efforts to address this issue.
