Arrests Linked to Cannabis Trafficking Between Mauritius and Réunion
Two individuals apprehended as part of an investigation into a drug trafficking network.
An ongoing investigation into a cannabis trafficking network connecting Mauritius to Réunion has led to the arrest of two suspects. The first arrest involved Gulshan Govind, the husband of Junior Minister Véronique Leu-Govind, who was apprehended by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU). This arrest follows the seizure of a significant shipment of cannabis weighing nearly 100 kilograms in Réunion.
One week after Govind’s apprehension, a second suspect, a resident of Case-Noyale, was also arrested. Investigators suspect this individual was part of the crew involved in the maritime crossing that facilitated the drug transport. Authorities continue to gather evidence and explore the ramifications of this trafficking network.
The arrests are part of an intensified effort to combat drug trafficking in the region, with law enforcement agencies ramping up their efforts to dismantle networks operating between the two territories.
