ADSU uproots 315 cannabis plants in Mare D’Albert and Souillac
Operations carried out by the ADSU in southern Mauritius highlight the fight against drug trafficking.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) conducted a significant operation as part of the fight against drug trafficking in Mauritius. During this intervention, 315 cannabis plants were uprooted in two locations: Mare D’Albert and Souillac.
These operations were made possible thanks to aerial reconnaissance carried out by the police helicopter squadron. The information obtained from the air allowed ADSU officers to locate abandoned plots that could harbor illegal crops.
In Mare D’Albert, agents scoured a fallow plot, where they uprooted 109 cannabis plants. These plants, ranging in height from 10 cm to one meter, were hidden among dense vegetation. The operations in Souillac were also successful, with the seizure of an additional 206 plants.
These actions are part of a series of ongoing efforts by Mauritian authorities to combat the cultivation and trafficking of cannabis, an issue that persists on the island. The ADSU has intensified its efforts in recent years to dismantle trafficking networks and reduce the availability of drugs in the local market.
Authorities urge the public to cooperate by providing information on suspicious activities to support security and public health operations. The fight against drugs is a major issue, and interventions of this type aim to protect the Mauritian community from the harmful effects of drug consumption.
