The Mauritian government is recruiting 100 young people to assist those aged 80 and over.

According to Minister Ashok Subron, the main objective of this initiative is to promote social interactions between young people and seniors. The recruited youth will be tasked with visiting elderly individuals to provide support and help them use new technologies, particularly to communicate with their loved ones or access online services.
This approach comes in a context where the Mauritian population is aging, and it is essential to maintain strong social ties for the well-being of elderly individuals. The government hopes to alleviate the social isolation often felt by this segment of the population.
The recruitment program for young people will take place over a period of three years. Selected candidates will receive appropriate training to prepare them for their missions. At the same time, this initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about the realities of aging and the importance of intergenerational support.
