Concerning Assessment of Armed Violence in Mauritius
Violence involving bladed weapons has caused numerous fatalities and injuries in Mauritius over the past five years.
The situation of armed violence in Mauritius raises serious concerns, as recent statistics reveal an alarming number of assaults involving bladed weapons. Between January 1, 2021, and July 15, 2026, police forces recorded a total of 731 cases involving weapons such as knives, daggers, and blades.
This assessment, presented by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam during a session at the National Assembly, highlights the tragic consequences of this violence. Indeed, during this period, 40 people lost their lives and 697 others were injured as a result of these assaults.
