Arrest of a Police Officer and His Wife at SSR Airport
An operation by the authorities led to the arrest of a law enforcement member and his partner for cannabis possession.
A joint operation by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and customs resulted in the arrest of a police officer and his wife at SSR International Airport on Friday, August 14, 2026. The two individuals, returning from a flight from Dubai, were intercepted during scanner checks.
The main suspect is a 47-year-old constable assigned to the technical unit of the Special Support Unit (SSU), while his 46-year-old wife was also arrested. Both reside in Petit-Raffray. During the inspection of their luggage, security agents discovered 32.5 grams of cannabis along with rolling papers.
This arrest raises troubling questions about security within law enforcement, particularly regarding the possibility of police members being involved in illegal activities. Authorities have yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding this case or the measures that will be taken against the suspects.
Control operations at the airport are designed to prevent drug trafficking and other illicit substances, but the involvement of a police officer in such a case could undermine public trust in law enforcement. Officials from ADSU and customs have emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and security within their ranks.
Further investigations will be necessary to understand the implications of this arrest on the reputation of the police forces and on the fight against drug trafficking in Mauritius.
