Pension Reform: Adrien Duval Speaks Out
The MP criticizes the 30% reduction in pensions, calling the situation incomprehensible for many Mauritians.
Adrien Duval, a member of the National Assembly, recently spoke out regarding the state pension reform, highlighting his confusion over the changes affecting future Mauritian retirees. According to him, this reform, which will come into effect on September 1, 2029, will pose significant problems for those born after September 1, 1969.
Duval noted that starting from this date, individuals who choose to receive their pension at age 60 will only receive Rs 12,772, while those who wait until age 65 will benefit from an amount of Rs 18,246. He explained that this difference translates to a nearly 30% reduction in pensions for the younger individuals affected.
The MP criticized this approach, calling it incomprehensible, especially in a context where the financial security of retirees is paramount. He also acknowledged that the government has introduced some pension increases in the past, but he considers the current reduction unacceptable.
Duval called for a reassessment of the reform to ensure that pensions remain adequate to support Mauritian citizens in their old age. He emphasized that the reform should aim to improve the financial situation of retirees, rather than impose significant cuts that could jeopardize their quality of life.
