As part of the management of stray dogs in Mauritius, the International Animal Coalition (IAWPC) has offered its assistance to the Mauritian government. In a letter dated March 30, the president of the IAWPC, Les Ward, addressed a message to Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, while also informing the Minister of Agro Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries, Arvin Boolell.

Les Ward emphasizes that Mauritius does not possess, on its own, the necessary skills and expertise to address the growing issue of stray dogs. This situation has become concerning for both animal welfare and citizen safety.

The letter highlights the challenges the government faces, including a lack of resources and specialized knowledge to implement sustainable solutions for managing stray dog populations. The IAWPC, which has significant experience in this area, proposes to assist in developing and implementing effective programs.

This initiative could improve the situation of stray dogs in Mauritius and ensure a better balance between animal welfare and public safety. By partnering with the IAWPC, the Mauritian government could benefit from valuable support to establish sustainable solutions tailored to local realities.

The issues surrounding stray dogs are multifaceted, encompassing public health, safety, and animal welfare aspects. A coordinated response, involving the expertise of international partners like the IAWPC, could be crucial for moving towards more effective management of this issue.
