Ambulance Issues at the Ministry of Health
A quarter of the ambulance fleet is out of service, raising concerns for emergency interventions.
The Ministry of Health is facing a troubling situation regarding its fleet of ambulances. Out of a total of 65 vehicles, 25 are currently out of service, representing nearly 39% of the fleet. This situation raises questions about the health system’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
Among the 25 ambulances that are out of service, 20 are undergoing repairs or maintenance, while the remaining five are deemed too old or too damaged to be put back into circulation. This means that only 40 ambulances are operational to ensure emergency interventions, transfers between healthcare facilities, and medical evacuations.
This significant reduction in the availability of ambulances comes at a time when the emergency medical assistance service (SAMU) is already under pressure, especially during periods of high demand. Healthcare professionals are concerned about the ability to provide rapid and adequate care to patients in critical situations.
Authorities must therefore assess and address this situation to ensure that the health system can continue to function effectively and meet the needs of the population. Regular maintenance and renewal of the ambulance fleet could be necessary solutions to prevent such situations from recurring in the future.
