The tourism sector of Mauritius is preparing for significant growth by 2025, aiming to welcome around 1.4 million visitors. This ambition is accompanied by an expectation of average spending of Rs 10,700 per night per tourist, which could generate considerable revenue for the local economy.

According to forecasts, the number of tourists is expected to increase by 3.9% compared to 2024. Tourist revenue for 2025 could reach a record figure of Rs 103.4 billion. This momentum is already visible, as during the first quarter of 2026, Mauritius recorded 348,445 tourist arrivals, marking a 6.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, revenue for this quarter saw an impressive increase of 28%, reaching Rs 30.2 billion.

This strategy focused on quality rather than quantity highlights the importance of customer experience in the tourism sector. Officials encourage tourism stakeholders to focus on improving services and infrastructure to attract visitors willing to spend more during their stay. This could include investments in high-end accommodation, enriching cultural experiences, and diverse recreational activities.

To achieve these ambitions, it is crucial to maintain effective promotion of Mauritius in international markets while ensuring that the hospitality conditions remain optimal. The commitment of various stakeholders in the sector will be essential to turn these forecasts into reality.
