Police Anti-Drug Operation in the East of the Island
A joint operation by the police and the ADSU led to the uprooting of over 300 cannabis plants in the East of the island.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, a joint operation conducted by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and the Police Helicopter Squadron resulted in the destruction of over 300 cannabis plants in the eastern region of Mauritius.
The interventions, which took place at several locations, began in Lallmatie around 12:35 PM. With the aerial support of police helicopters, officers were able to locate and uproot cannabis plantations in forested areas. This targeted operation is part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking on the island.
In total, three distinct sites were identified, and ADSU agents acted swiftly to eliminate the cannabis plants. One of the objectives of this operation is to reduce the supply of drugs and raise public awareness about the dangers of cannabis consumption.
These actions are part of the ongoing efforts by Mauritian authorities to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of citizens. Collaboration between different security agencies, such as the ADSU and the police, is essential for the success of such operations.
This initiative also demonstrates the determination of law enforcement to act against illegal activities, while highlighting the importance of aerial support in police operations.
