The Ministry of Education recently presented a concerning report regarding school bullying, with 353 cases of bullying reported in primary and secondary schools between January 2025 and May 7, 2026. This situation particularly calls for action from educational authorities who are striving to implement effective measures to counter this phenomenon.

The case of a student from Maurice Curé SSSS, who allegedly suffered bullying within his school and now refuses to return, highlights the urgency of taking action. His mother has expressed her intention to transfer him, emphasizing the serious repercussions that bullying can have on students’ lives.

To address this scourge, the ministry has planned several initiatives. According to statements from the Minister of Education, psychological services are being offered to victims of school bullying to support them in their suffering. These services aim to provide appropriate psychological support and help students overcome the trauma related to assaults or bullying behaviors.

In addition to these measures, the ministry also emphasizes the importance of awareness and prevention within schools. Educational programs are being developed to educate students about the impacts of bullying, in order to promote a healthier and more respectful school environment.

Monitoring reported cases is also a priority for educational leaders. They are committed to examining each report seriously and taking appropriate measures to protect the affected students. This includes interventions with students involved in bullying behaviors, as well as collaborative work with parents and teachers to establish a climate of trust.

The efforts of the Ministry of Education are essential in combating school bullying, but they also require the cooperation of the entire educational community. Parents, teachers, and students must all engage to create a school environment where everyone feels safe and respected.

This issue remains relevant and deserves ongoing attention to ensure the well-being of students in Mauritian schools.
