The weather conditions in Mauritius remain concerning, with ongoing alerts regarding violent winds and high swells. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre, the island is under a ‘strong winds and high swells’ alert until August 31 at 10 a.m.

The cause of this situation lies in a strong anticyclonic disturbance that is generating windy and cool weather across the territory. Winds are primarily blowing from the southeast at a speed of about 45 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. These conditions can make navigation at sea particularly dangerous.

Forecasts also indicate that the sea will be very rough, with swells from the southwest ranging between 4 and 6 meters. This phenomenon could lead to storm surges during high tides, thereby increasing the risk of coastal flooding in certain areas.

Local authorities recommend that residents exercise caution, especially those living near the coast or engaging in water activities. It is advised to stay informed about weather updates and to follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

The extreme weather conditions, exacerbated by natural phenomena, highlight the importance of constant vigilance to protect the population and the island’s infrastructure. Meteorological services continue to monitor the situation closely and will not hesitate to issue new alerts if necessary.
