On July 16, Mauritius took a significant step in its maritime security cooperation with the United States. An Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) was signed at the Port Louis Docks, aimed at improving the operational capabilities of Mauritian law enforcement forces.

This new agreement covers an impressive maritime area of 2.3 million km², highlighting the strategic importance of collaboration between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Mauritius Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally and Brigadier General Paul Filcek, the logistics director of US Africa Command. The signing took place in the presence of the US Secretary of Homeland Security.

The cooperation between Mauritius and the United States in maritime security aims to enhance surveillance, protection, and response to potential threats in this vast maritime area. The ACSA will also allow for the exchange of resources and services, thereby facilitating joint operations and the sharing of best practices.

Mauritian authorities emphasize that this agreement is an important step towards better securing the waters around the island, which are crucial for fishing, trade, and tourism, while also contributing to the fight against piracy and other illegal activities.

The United States, for its part, has expressed its commitment to supporting Mauritius’s efforts to ensure maritime security and strengthen stability in the region. This agreement is seen as a key element in the American strategy for Africa and the Indian Ocean.
