Over the past two years, bus stations in Mauritius have witnessed nineteen accidents, raising concerns about the safety of these transit spaces. These incidents, which occurred in ten bus stations and Traffic Centres, include both minor and serious injuries, as well as fatalities.

According to information provided by the Minister of Land Transport, Osman Mahomed, during a parliamentary session, two of the accidents were fatal. Specifically, the report indicates 11 accidents resulting in minor injuries and six accidents causing serious injuries. The bus stations in Flacq appear to be particularly affected, with five accidents reported in this area.

This report on the safety of bus stations has raised concerns among members of Parliament, notably MP Ludovic Caserne, who highlighted the need to improve infrastructure to ensure the safety of users. Authorities are now urged to take measures to reduce the number of accidents and enhance safety in these often crowded spaces.

The issue of road safety in Mauritius remains a concern, and the recent events in bus stations only add to the need for thorough reflection on the measures to be implemented to protect passengers and users of these facilities.
