Mauritian authorities continue to deepen their investigation into a cannabis trafficking network active between Mauritius and the island of Réunion. The case took a significant turn with the surrender of Shaan Kumar Choolun, nicknamed « Mithun, » who turned himself in to the ADSU (Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit) after his wife’s arrest.

This investigation was triggered after a police operation that took place on August 27, when ADSU agents searched Mithun’s home in Morne. Following this intervention, his wife was arrested, prompting Mithun to turn himself in to the authorities the next day, August 28, to respond to the charges against him.

The 43-year-old trafficker had been wanted by the police since August 19. The nature of the charges and the details of the illegal activities remain unclear, but the case highlights the connections between the two islands concerning drug trafficking. Mauritian authorities appear determined to dismantle this network, which seems to have significant ramifications.

This case also raises questions about the family dynamics involved in drug trafficking and the impact of these activities on the relatives of those involved. The police continue to work to gather more information and identify others who may be connected to this network.

ADSU officials have stated that they will continue their efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect the community from the associated dangers. Authorities are aware of the scale of the problem and are committed to strengthening their operations to counter this illegal activity.
