Comoros to Host Indian Ocean Island Games in 2027
The dates for the 2027 Island Games in Comoros have been set, bringing significant changes for participants.

The Comoros is preparing to host the 12th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games, which will take place from August 10 to 19, 2027. This decision ends a period of uncertainty regarding the event’s schedule, particularly for the delegation from Réunion, which had expressed concerns about the initially planned dates.
Initially, the Games were scheduled for August 24 to September 2, 2027. However, following discussions, it was agreed to move the dates forward to allow optimal participation from all countries, especially Réunion. The latter emphasized that the school year, set to begin in mid-August, made the initial dates problematic for athletes and their families.
The change in schedule has been positively received, allowing Réunion to participate without conflicting with its school obligations. This event is crucial for the region, as it promotes not only sports but also cultural exchanges between the islands of the Indian Ocean.
The Indian Ocean Island Games represent an important platform for athletes from neighboring Indian Ocean countries, offering the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports disciplines. As the host, the Comoros is committed to preparing an event that meets the expectations of participants and spectators.
This edition of the Island Games is also expected to strengthen ties between the nations of the Indian Ocean, promoting solidarity and cooperation through sports.
