The protest surrounding pension reform in Mauritius remains active, with the Platform Komun Sindikal (PKS) preparing to organize a new mobilization. After a significant initial action on July 11, the trade union movement has announced a series of initiatives to maintain pressure on the government.

The PKS plans a day of civil disobedience on September 18, followed by a large demonstration on October 17. These actions aim to express citizens’ dissatisfaction with the pension reform, which has sparked strong reactions within the population. Indeed, the reform, which proposes raising the retirement age, is perceived by some as an infringement on workers’ rights.

The trade union movement seeks to mobilize broad public support for these actions, hoping to influence government decisions. Despite the recent adoption of the Finance Bill, which includes provisions related to this reform, the PKS remains determined to make its voice heard and defend the interests of workers.

This new mobilization follows a meeting between the PKS and the President of the Republic, during which union representatives expressed their concerns regarding the impacts of this reform on workers and their families.

The PKS intends to continue fighting for what it considers a fundamental right: a decent retirement for all Mauritians. The coming weeks will be crucial for the dynamics of this movement as the date of October 17 approaches.
