The Ministry of Education in Mauritius is finalizing its Blueprint, a strategic document that will soon be submitted to the Cabinet. This ambitious plan aims to reorganize the country’s education system, with several key changes that could transform the current educational landscape.

Among the main proposals are a reorganization of secondary education and a revision of student assessment methods. One of the most significant changes is the decision to abolish the National Certificate of Education (NCE) in its current form. This measure is intended to align assessments with modern educational needs and better prepare students for future challenges.

Admission to Grade 7 and the Evolution of Colleges

The proposed new model suggests that student admissions to Grade 7 will take place in national and regional colleges, based on the results of the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC). This change aims to streamline admissions and ensure that students are placed in institutions suited to their abilities and interests.

Transformation of Academies

Another key proposal of the Blueprint is the transformation of academies. Currently, these institutions play a crucial role in the education system, but the plan envisions their disappearance in their current form. This suggests a significant restructuring that could redefine the role and function of academies within the Mauritian education system.

The Ministry of Education hopes that these reforms will improve the quality of education in Mauritius. By emphasizing more relevant assessments and fairer admissions, the ministry aims to better prepare students for their academic and professional futures.

Thus, the educational Blueprint is a step towards modernizing the Mauritian education system, with the ultimate goal of creating a more effective and inclusive learning environment for all students.
