The Vision 2050 project in Mauritius has recently reached a significant milestone after more than six months of public consultations. The proposals collected from nearly 2,000 citizens from Mauritius and Rodrigues were presented to parliamentarians during a session held on Tuesday, August 11.

This project, which aims to transform the country’s economic landscape, aspires to achieve a $50 billion economy by 2050. To realize this goal, Vision 2050 focuses on a new growth model, specifically targeting eight key sectors, although the details of these sectors have not been specified.

The consultation process has gathered a variety of ideas and suggestions, reflecting the concerns and aspirations of a large segment of the population. However, it is important to note that despite these ambitions, the urgent issues facing the country remain present and require immediate attention.

Before being submitted to the Council of Ministers, the Vision 2050 project still needs to be amended. Officials hope that the proposed adjustments will address the concerns raised by citizens during the consultations.

Parliamentarians are tasked with debating the proposals and contributing to the development of a plan that could redefine Mauritius’s economic future. Discussions around this ambitious project continue to fuel public and political debate, highlighting the long-term priorities for the country.
