The Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius has announced its ambitious goal of attracting up to Rs 40 billion in foreign investments over the next two years, until 2026-2027. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the Mauritian economy and diversifying its revenue sources.

According to statements from the EDB, several sectors will be targeted for these investments, including information technology, financial services, tourism, and manufacturing. The aim is to attract international companies that can contribute to the sustainable development of the island and create jobs for Mauritians.

To achieve this goal, the EDB will implement incentive measures for foreign investors. This includes streamlining administrative processes, as well as tax relief for companies that choose to establish themselves in Mauritius.

This initiative comes at a time when the Mauritian government is seeking to revitalize the country’s economy following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The EDB emphasizes that these investments are crucial for supporting economic recovery and fostering long-term sustainable growth.

Furthermore, the agency also plans to strengthen its marketing efforts to promote Mauritius as an attractive investment destination. This will include awareness campaigns highlighting the benefits of investing in Mauritius, as well as participation in international forums to connect with potential investors.

EDB officials are optimistic about achieving these goals and assert that foreign investments are essential for the diversification of the Mauritian economy, which has historically been dependent on a few key sectors. By attracting foreign funds, the island hopes not only to increase its GDP but also to improve its infrastructure and technological capabilities.

In this context, the EDB also hopes that these investments will help strengthen Mauritius’s positioning as a regional business hub, attracting companies looking to expand in the Indian Ocean.
