Renovation of the Open-Air Museum at Trou Chenille

The open-air museum at Trou Chenille, located in Morne, will undergo renovation work amounting to a total of Rs 124 million. This work will span a period of three years and aims to modernize the site’s infrastructure while preserving its historical and cultural value.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mahen Gondeea, during a site visit. He specified that all necessary administrative procedures for the execution of this project have now been finalized, allowing for the imminent start of the work.
The renovation project includes several aspects, notably the construction of an administrative building that will facilitate the management and organization of the museum’s activities. The goal is to make the museum more accessible and attractive to visitors while respecting the integrity of the historical site.
With this initiative, the authorities hope to enhance the region’s tourist appeal and provide a better experience for visitors, thereby contributing to the promotion of Mauritian cultural heritage.
