Launch of a Drainage Project in Poste-de-Flacq
The Mauritian government begins a drainage project worth over Rs 2 billion to combat flooding.
On August 6, the Mauritian government inaugurated the first phase of an ambitious project aimed at reducing flood risks in the eastern part of the island. This project, which represents an investment of over Rs 2 billion, initially focuses on the locality of Poste-de-Flacq.
The first phase, which costs approximately Rs 184 million, will be implemented by Drains Infrastructure Construction Ltd (DICL). The works are expected to last 490 days and will affect several areas, including Débarcadère, Allée Mangues, Cité Hibiscus, La Source, and Bramsthan.
This drainage project has the primary objective of alleviating the flooding issues that regularly affect these localities, especially during the rainy season. The Minister of Public Infrastructure emphasized the importance of this project for the safety of residents and for the development of the region.
