Funding for the M4 Highway by India
The M4 highway project, valued at Rs 10 billion, will be financed by a loan from the Indian government.
The construction project for the M4 highway, representing an investment of approximately Rs 10 billion, was recently announced. This ambitious project aims to create a dual carriageway spanning nearly 30 kilometers, connecting the Forbach area, located on the M2 highway in the north of the island, to Bel-Air in the east of Mauritius.
The route of the M4 highway has been carefully designed to bypass several important localities, including Poudre-d’Or Hamlet, Rivière-du-Rempart, Plaine-des-Roches, L’Aventure, Pont-Blanc, Constance, Queen-Victoria, and Clemencia. This infrastructure aims to improve connectivity between these regions and facilitate transport across the island.
The funding for this project will be secured through a special loan of 680 million US dollars granted by the Indian government. This financial support reflects the close ties between Mauritius and India and is part of a bilateral cooperation framework aimed at promoting economic development in Mauritius.
This highway project is eagerly anticipated, as it is expected to not only improve road traffic but also stimulate local economic development by facilitating access to different regions of the island.
