Mauritian Women Live Longer Than Men
According to data from Statistics Mauritius, the life expectancy gap between women and men continues to widen in Mauritius.
The latest statistics provided by Statistics Mauritius reveal that women in Mauritius enjoy a significantly higher life expectancy than men. By 2025, a Mauritian woman can expect to live an average of up to 78 years, while a man is expected to live only up to 70.7 years.
This finding highlights a gap of 7.3 years between the sexes, a trend that has intensified over the past twenty years. In fact, in 2005, this gap was 6.8 years. Despite some general improvements in health and living conditions, the figures indicate that women continue to surpass men in terms of life expectancy.
This situation raises questions about the various factors that may contribute to this difference in longevity. Lifestyle habits, access to healthcare, and risk behaviors could play a significant role in this dynamic.
The data also show that the improvement in women’s life expectancy is consistent, which could be attributed to various aspects, including generally healthier lifestyle choices. However, it is crucial to continue efforts to improve men’s health and reduce this gap to ensure a better quality of life for all Mauritians.
