Accidents in Bus Stations in Mauritius
Nineteen incidents resulting in injuries have been reported in Mauritian bus stations over the past two years, raising concerns about safety.
Over the past two years, bus stations and Traffic Centres in Mauritius have witnessed nineteen accidents resulting in injuries. This toll was recently brought to the attention of Parliament by the Minister of Land Transport, Osman Mahomed, in response to a question from MP Ludovic Caserne.
The reported accidents include injuries of varying severity. Among the nineteen incidents, eleven resulted in minor injuries, while six were classified as serious injuries. Additionally, two of the accidents unfortunately led to the deaths of the victims.
The Flacq region appears to be particularly affected, with five accidents reported during this period. This figure highlights growing concerns regarding the safety of road infrastructure in Mauritius, especially in bus stations where traffic is heavy.
This situation raises questions about the safety measures implemented in these locations. Authorities are urged to assess and strengthen security protocols to minimize the risks of future accidents. Raising awareness among users of these infrastructures is also crucial to prevent such incidents.
While the statistics are concerning, they may not fully reveal the extent of the safety issues. Therefore, authorities must consider sustainable solutions to enhance safety in bus stations and ensure the protection of users.
