This decision comes amid a significant decrease in fishing license applications, prompting the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries to reassess the situation. The previous ban had impacted several vessels, which found themselves unable to store the fuel necessary for their operations.
The lifting of this restriction aims to facilitate the operations of fishing vessels and encourage maritime activities in the region. Authorities hope that this measure will help rekindle interest in fishing in Mauritian waters and attract more vessels to the port.
