The opposition leader used a limited portion of his time during his first PNQ, raising unanswered questions.

During his first Private Notice Question (PNQ) as the leader of the opposition, Chetan Baboolall raised concerns regarding public health management, but also left several questions unanswered. According to analyses, he used about half of the 30 minutes allocated for this session.

Two major points were raised during this PNQ. First, the involvement of the private doctor of the Minister of Health, Anil Bachoo, in an intervention was highlighted. The latter had previously stated that his role was limited to observation, which raised doubts about the transparency of actions taken in public health.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister acknowledged that there was no formal protocol governing this intervention, which raises concerns about the clarity and effectiveness of the procedures in place. These elements could potentially put the government in a difficult position, especially in light of criticism regarding health management.

Despite the relevance of the questions raised, Baboolall’s limited use of speaking time led to an impression of a lack of depth in the examination of the topics addressed. This left several questions hanging, which could undermine the impact of his intervention.

Chetan Baboolall’s performance during this first PNQ could thus be seen as a missed opportunity to delve into critical issues and to strengthen his position as the leader of the opposition. Expectations were high, but the outcome was deemed insufficient by some observers.
