The situation regarding medical equipment in the public hospitals of the island is concerning, with several essential devices currently out of service. This breakdown particularly affects medical imaging devices, such as MRIs and scanners, which could significantly impact the quality of care provided to patients.

At the National Cancer Centre (NCC), the MRI machine is down, complicating the monitoring and diagnosis of cancer patients. At Victoria Hospital, located in Candos, both the scanner and the MRI machine are also out of order, causing delays in necessary examinations and treatments.

Meanwhile, Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital is experiencing technical issues with its MRI machine, although it continues to operate partially. However, this situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of the care provided. Additionally, the Northern Hospital faces similar difficulties, with its scanner also out of service and unable to meet the growing demand from patients.

These breakdowns, which have persisted for some time, highlight the challenges faced by public hospitals in maintaining quality healthcare services. Patients, particularly those in need of accurate and timely diagnoses, risk suffering adverse consequences due to these technical failures.

Health authorities will need to take urgent measures to address this situation and ensure that essential medical equipment is operational to provide adequate care to the population.
